{"id":204,"date":"2020-02-18T22:19:05","date_gmt":"2020-02-18T21:19:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.cemea.org\/capemob\/?p=204"},"modified":"2020-02-18T22:19:07","modified_gmt":"2020-02-18T21:19:07","slug":"ligue-de-lenseignement-english-version","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.cemea.org\/capemob\/2020\/02\/18\/ligue-de-lenseignement-english-version\/","title":{"rendered":"Ligue de l&rsquo;Enseignement (english version)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Founded in 1866, la\nLigue de l\u2019enseignement is one of France\u2019s largest organisations in non-formal\neducation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1866 : Jean Mac\u00e9, a journalist, creates la Ligue fran\u00e7aise de  l\u2019enseignement<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1872 : 1,300,000 signatures for a free, compulsory, secularist and public school<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1881-1882 : Jules Ferry, French secretary of education, makes school free, compulsory and secularist<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1905 : law on the separation\nof church and state<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1925 : the \u201cconstituent assembly for a restored Ligue\u201d decentralises  the organisation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1930 : La Ligue is recognized\nas a public interest organisation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1942 : La Ligue is dissolved during the Second World War and refounded in 1945<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1987 : Creation of Condorcet circles to promote critical thinking and fight against disinformation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1999 : First education Fair:\nit takes place each year in november<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It gathers 25,000 associations in 102 local and 22 regional federations with the common aims of training responsible citizens, fighting against all inequalities and building a fairer and more independent society. It aims to guarantee access to education for everyone and further promotes a secular society, solidarity among citizens and active citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Over 1.6 million\nmembers<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Present in 23,840 towns<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>500,000 volunteers<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>educAtion\/ LifelOng\nLeArning<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a complementary\nactor to school, la Ligue works in favour of reducing inequalities and school\ncompetition by enabling access to non-formal and informal education for\neveryone. La Ligue cooperates with local authorities to assess and redirect\npublic policies and projects in the field of education. Examples of activities\ncarried out are support actions for school dropouts, adult education centres, 2nd chance schools,\nrecreational centres&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Youth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Ligue de\nl\u2019enseignement accompanies youngsters from childhood to young adulthood. Since\n2007, la Ligue is a host organisation for the French civic service. La Ligue\nalso supports youth initiatives through trainings for youth facilitators and\nyoungsters, in order to promote their active citizenship. Youth commitment is\nnotably done through the programme \u201cJuniors Associations\u201d, which helps underage\nteenagers create their own association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>2,000 volunteers hosted\nin 95 federations in 2014<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>10,000 empowered youth\nin 1,000 \u201cJuniors associations\u201d in 2014<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Over 4,000 \u201cJuniors\nAssociations\u201d founded since 1998<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HolidaYs and\neducatiOnal leisure activitiEs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cVacances pour tous\u201d\nhas been a dynamic actor of social, educational and associative tourism in\nFrance for 50 years. La Ligue de l\u2019enseignement promotes the principle of equal\nopportunities through financial support by local authorities. La Ligue offers\ncertifying courses for youth leaders and workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It offers school trips,\nsummer camps, family trips and language course holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Over 500,000 children\nand teenagers are able to take part<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>in holiday or language\ncourse programmes each year<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>160 holidays centres\nmanaged by la Ligue all over France<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FreedOm of consciEnce (La\u00efcit\u00e9)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Ligue works on\nconnexions between \u201cla\u00efcit\u00e9\u201d (humanism) and diversity and has built a\ntheoretical overview in one of its founding texts \u201cHumanism, a key to the\nmanagement of diversity\u201d by Pierre Tournemire, one of its vice-presidents. La\nLigue\u2019s position defends a republican idea, based on equality of rights, facing\ntransformation of French society into a multicultural society. The notion of\n\u201cla\u00efcit\u00e9\u201d is specific to France and is not an easy one to translate or to\nexplain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Humanism or secularism\nare the closest translations. It represents the separation between church and\nstate, freedom of thought, freedom to believe or not to believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SpOrt<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Ligue promotes\nschool sport and sport for all, through its sports federations Ufolep and Usep.\nTheir objective is to give everybody the possibility to practice physical\nactivities, as part of culture and a means of education, involving all people\nand especially children, in the perspective of favouring an inclusive society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>2,000,000 pupils and\ntheir relatives involved in Usep<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>400,000 members of\nUfolep<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CultUre\/informAtion\nsOciety<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Ligue believes\nculture is not only limited to arts and heritage but enables us to understand\nthe world. Cultural education and youth policies should be consistent and each\nof them should be led democratically, by involving citizens. Four priorities\nlead its work: reinforcing artistic education, diversity, participation and\nlifelong learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>400,000 spectators of\n2,500 performances and 77 festivals<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>250,000 children reached\nby writing and reading activities<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>1,800,000 cinema\ntickets each year<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EnvironmEnt and sustAinable develOpment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For 20 years, la Ligue de l\u2019enseignement has been committed to implement civic activities about environment and sustainable development. It favours community education to involve citizens. The Environment and Sustainable Development Department has two main goals: the development of a Citizenship-Environment-Sustainable development (CED) label and the implementation of Agenda 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>40 accommodation and\nrecreational centres with CED label<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>20 federations acting\nfor associative Agenda 21<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>eurOpe\/internAtional solidaritY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of\nInternational and European affairs is a resource centre for the federations.\nThe head office of la Ligue de l\u2019enseignement is involved in many European\nprojects. The International Department works also in close cooperation with the\nFrench-German Youth Office (OFAJ). The International Department represents la\nLigue de l\u2019enseignement in European networks representing civil society and\npromoting shared values of solidarity, social justice, such as Solidar, EUCIS-LLL\nand the European Civic Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SociAl wElfare<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Social welfare aims at\nenabling vulnerable, excluded people or those facing integration challenges to\nbe part of society.
